Dyers to float company

Dyers, processors and those in allied business who have been asked to either cut down or stop effluent discharge have come together to solve the problem.
In a meeting held on Wednesday in Tirupur, people in the trade from Tirupur, Erode, Karur and Perundurai SIPCOT decided to float a company tentatively called Total Eco-solution Ltd. to let the treated effluent into the sea. P.K.N. Chandrasekaran, secretary, Erode District Textiles Processors Association, said a company would be set up to discharge the effluents, and that the members from the above-mentioned places would be the stakeholders.
The members also held a discussion with the Tamil Nadu Water Investment Company to explore the possibility of sea discharge.
Mr. Chandrasekaran said it would take around three years to complete the project.
Once completed, it is expected to discharge around 25 crore litres of treated effluents a day into the sea. The estimated project is about Rs. 2,000 crore, which includes contributions by the businessmen and government' s State and Centre.
Mr. Chandrasekaran said they had requested subsidies from the governments - 15 per cent from the State Government and 25 per cent from the Union Government. Of the remaining 60 per cent, the members would chip in with 10 per cent and the rest would be raised as long-term loans.
He said representatives of all the participating institutions would govern the company.
He also said that the cost was not very high and that the members would be able to manage it.
There are at present nearly 2,000 members in the above towns who will participate in the project.
